The history of music in Afghanistan is a story marked by pain, war, displacement and division. Yet, at the same time, it is a history of extraordinary talent, love, passion, resilience, and mystery.

For generations, conflict and political upheaval have disrupted artistic traditions, silenced voices, scattered musicians across the world and caused countless recordings, compositions and stories to disappear.

Soroud is an attempt to uncover these hidden chapters and to reclaim fragments of a musical heritage that risk being lost to time. It seeks to rediscover, preserve and reconnect the pieces of Afghanistan’s musical history that have been scattered by decades of war, migration and loss.

At its heart, Soroud is an effort to bring the music of Afghanistan together in one place: its timeless poetry, compositions, melodies, voices and the stories behind them.

By collecting and documenting this heritage, Soroud hopes to create a bridge between generations and to make Afghanistan’s rich musical legacy accessible to those who remember it, those who have been separated from it and those who are discovering it for the first time.

Because music is more than sound. It is memory, identity, history and belonging. And every song preserved is a piece of history that can live again.
